Raising money for Alzheimer's Research.

Over 100 runners and walkers from Moose Jaw and surrounding areas gathered on Saturday June 15, 2019 to participate in the first inaugural 5K and 10K Alzheimer's Walk/Run. Since then, the race has grown every year. The participants travel through the beautiful trails surrounding the Moose Jaw River.

Over 25 local businesses have jumped on board to support the event over the years. These businesses have made it possible to provide the walkers and runners with much appreciated keepsakes and refreshments after the memorable trip through the park. All proceeds and donations are given directly to the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan. Over the past four years, we have raised over $30,000.

ABOUT DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia and accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases (Alzheimer's Association, 2020). Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks (NIA, 2017). In 2010, an estimated 35.6 million people worldwide were living with dementia, a number that is expected to double by the year 2030 (Stats Canada, 2016).
