Raising money for Alzheimer's Research.

Over 100 runners and walkers from Moose Jaw and surrounding areas gathered on Saturday June 15, 2019 to participate in the 5K and 10K walk/run around the beautiful trails in Tatawaw Park surrounding the Moose Jaw River. All registration fees and donations were collected to raise money for Alzheimer's research.

19 local businesses jumped on board to support the inaugural 5K and 10K Walk/Run 4 ALZ. These businesses made it possible to provide the walkers and runners with much appreciated keepsakes and refreshments after the memorable trip through the park. All proceeds and donations are given directly to the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan. Last year (2019) we raised over $5000 and our goal this year is to raise another $6000.

Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia and accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases (Alzheimer's Association, 2020). Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks (NIA, 2017). In 2010, an estimated 35.6 million people worldwide were living with dementia, a number that is expected to double by the year 2030 (Stats Canada, 2016).
